講座內(nèi)容簡介：

Hanna Rosin's bestselling book The End of Men and the Rise of Women (2012) provocatively argued for an unprecedented rise of women on a global scale. At the same time there seems to be a decisive backlash in gender equality in different parts of the world. How justified is Rosin's claim? What are its potential benefits and drawbacks? I will critically engage with some of her findings and discuss the implications of her central thesis for the future of gender relations in the 21st century.

主講人介紹：

Beate Neumeier is Professor of English from the University of Cologne. She is editor of the gender studies data base genderInn and the e-journal genderforum. Her research areas are Gender, Drama/Performance, and Post/colonial Studies from the Early Modern to the contemporary period.

“In this paper I discuss the biographical and political background of Barack Obama to evaluate his career as a writer and politician. The assessment of his performance as president of the United States and as the first black person in the White House is based on a series of national and international speeches and actions. Special attention will be given to his ego documents: his autobiography Dreams from my Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance (1995; 2004), his essay collection The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream (2006), Audiotexts, promotional films A Mother's Promise: Barack's Bio Film (2008) and infomercials, his children's book Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters (2010) dedicated to his daughters and cartoons of popular culture. ”

主講人介紹：

Alfred Hornung is Research Professor and Chair of English and American Studies at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz. He held guest professorships at various European, American, Canadian, and Chinese universities. He was a fellow at Harvard, Yale, the National Humanities Center in North Carolina, and is a member of the Center for Cross-cultural studies at Peking University. His publications are in the field of modernism, postmodernism, life writing, intercultural, and transnational studies.
